QUICK GUIDE TO THE HISTORY OF LATVIA CD
From the Startup screen you can
choose to navigate through any of the views - Articles, Timeline, and Galleries. You can
return to this screen from any place in the encylopedia by clicking the control box
and selecting Home.

NAVIGATION AND HYPERLINKS
Just click on menus, buttons
and icons to move around the History of Latvia encylopedia. You can use Back and Forward buttons to return to the
previous screens. Or you can click the Features and select Home, to return to the Startup screen.
Some texts in the articles are marked with hyperlinks. A click on a hyperlink will bring you to a related
article (much the same way you click on links on this Web page). Use hyperlinks to navigate through
the encylopedia and find the information you need.

USING FEATURES
Click the Features button if you want to switch to the Timeline view or to the Galleries, as well as if you
want to customise the encyclopedia. For example, if it is difficult for you to read the texts due to the
size of the font, just click Features and select Text Large.
If you want to copy or print some information from the encylopedia select the appropriate item from the
Features menu.
Under Features, you will also find the list of references used in the encylopedia, as well as information
on the authors of the CD encylopedia.

ARTICLES
Most articles are complemented by pictures with captions and video or audio clips. A click on the Expand
button will display the full view of media items. You can close the full view of a media item by
clicking the mouse on the opened item.
Some of the articles have several media items attached. You can quickly view the list of all the items
by clicking the down-arrow in the upper right corner of the media window.

SEARCH
In the Article view, click the Search button, and the Search window will appear.
You can search by text, category, media or time period.

TIMELINE
The Timeline is a chronology of the history of Latvia, providing highlights of the most crucial events
in the context of notable events in world history.
You can scroll through the Timeline, using the scroll bar on the bottom of the window. Click on the
pictures or headings or articles to open the article and use the related media items.

GALLERIES
The emotional sythesis of pictures and music in the Galleries creates a unique atmosphere of past
events. You can see view of Riga in ealry 20th century, the Latvian Riflemen as well as the Awakening
and restoration of independence in 1990s.
The Chronicle of Awakening is an insider's view on the breakaway of Latvia from the Soviet Union. The
Chronicle provides richly illustrated material, including videos, on the events that lead up to the restoration
of independent Latvia in 1991.
